Perth – Gwambygine, 70 miles

Well today had its ups and downs. 2,559 ft of ups (just over a tenth of Everest) and a savage cross wind during the downs.

We started the day with a ceremonious tyre dip into the Indian Ocean (or a tributary on route in Perth) then set off. Unfortunately the only road out of the city in our direction is highway 94, a very steep dual carriageway with no hard shoulder and lots of left hand bends (making us at the edge invisible to traffic behind). Easily the scariest cycling either of us had ever done. We eventually got off the highway and onto an epic cycle path for about 10 miles to Beechina.

Here Jack had the first instance of falling over at a standstill with his feet clipped in, the disentanglement was a two man job.

Then we saw the fist Kangaroo! Unfortunately it’s soul had left the earth but still cool to see some wildlife. The rest of the journey was pretty uneventful but spending the night in a v nice house courtesy of Warm Showers. Tomorrow is looking wet..
