Melborne – Noojee 68 miles

We left Melborne this morning. Good we ended up staying because there was a massive storm last night and we’ve seen a few trees down today so not camping weather. There is decent cycle paths pretty much all the way out of the city. Unfortunately as we entered the hills the weather got a worse and by lunch it was torrential.

Rained more in the afternoon and after some big hills we are now camping in a car park in a forest, hiding from the deteriorating weather. Thankfully there’s a shelter to cook under.

Another storm last night. A branch was blown off a tree and landed on my tent at 2am and was actually rather scary. A few branches also hit the tin roof making loud bangs, keeping me on my toes.

The day started with some fat climbing then down hills on a debris strewn road.

The terrain started to even out as we left the forest but the heavens opened and it got super windy. We had to take shelter a couple of times and one gust hit the bike so fast that it almost disappeared from underneath me. Had to travel v slowly with feet un clipped to not die. After some riding in italics we headed towards our warm showers hosts and finally had the wind behind us.

There was an attempt to utilise the wind by making our coats into a sail by turning them back to front but to no avail…
