Kimba -Wirrabara 120 miles

24/6

Two very different days! They start with a super cold morning, with frozen porridge water and a slow start to a long day..

We did find a good spot for a morning snack with chairs with backs that we haven’t seen for a while so timelapsed it!

Eventually made it to the mythical town that is Iron Knob. Its a former mining town that has the population of about 10. After a bit of investigation found the only place with coffee which was in a museum with two delightful ladies.

After that we headed off towards Fort Augusta into a savage head wind on a busy, narrow road and much pain was endured. Jack reckons it was the worst ride of his life and it wasn’t far off for me, though no worse ones spring to mind.

We eventually reached Port Augusta and after a shop reached our motel in the dark. The only cooking facilities was a microwave but we managed to boil pasta and make nachos.

Today couldn’t have been more different to yesterday. We woke up to bright sunshine, a lie in until 8, had a good breakfast and set off with the wind behind us.

We planned for a shortish day to account for the climb over the Flinders Range, pretty much straight out of Port Augusta.

It was a steep climb but the weather was amazing and got the drone out half way up. Had some amazing descents too and all in all definitely the most interesting day since the Nullabor and perhaps of the trip.

The shop in winnapeg was jokes. It was small and had an everyone knows everyone vibe. The ladies in there loved our lycra and there were a few “if I were 20 years younger” comments.

After lunch we had a gentle pootle and camped just off the road. Have organised a warm showers host for tomorrow!
